Chicago -> Detroit -> Berlin -> Shoreditch…

After an extended summer hiatus, Wax’d rolls back into town to kick off its winter 2010 season on Friday 5 November at The Gramaphone in Shoreditch.

Armed with stacks of fresh and forgotten vinyl, the Wax’d team will take over the intimate basement club of the Gramaphone in Shoreditch, just metres from Liverpool Street, Spitalfields market and Brick Lane.

Housed in a commercial building dating back to Victorian times, The Gramaphone displays original brick arches and stone slabs combined with wooden floors, a Funktion 1 soundsystem and a well stocked bar.

This space is the perfect fit for the deepest house sounds of Wax’d, as our residents dig deep in their crates for their unique blend of forgotten gems and modern cuts, with a number of special guests to be confirmed.

Get yourselves down early to ensure entry. See you on the dancefloor!

As summer edges ever closer, Wax’d rolls into town for a night of the hottest underground house sounds at the East End’s finest boozer-come-club – The Star of Bethnal Green – on Saturday 12 June.

The Star’s intimate, industrial space is the perfect fit for the deepest house sounds of Chicago and Detroit, as our residents dig deep in their crates for their unique blend of forgotten gems and modern cuts, all with a firm foot in the underground.

Our last few parties have been really busy, so get yourselves down early to ensure entry. For those of you wanting to watch the England world cup game, The Star will be screening the match beforehand (7.30pm kick off), so come early, watch the game and get your dancing shoes ready!

So a *massive* thanks to everyone who came down to Public Life on Friday night…we were absolutely packed in there and the feedback from everyone was really positive. Shame we couldn’t carry on even later!

Keep your eyes peeled for our next party on Saturday 12th June, in a brand new venue we’ve never used before. Exciting times – this one’s set to be our biggest party yet.

In the meantime, feast your ears on this:

So a massive thank you to everyone who came down to Public Life the other Friday and made it our best Wax’d yet! We had so much fun that we will be returning to the toilet on Friday 23 April – watch this space for more info nearer the time!

In the meantime, check out some photos from Friday here.

Some Thursday afternoon slabs of (virtual) wax for your listening pleasure. The latter has just cost me £35 on Discogs. Ouch:

R.I.P. Bar 25

September 4, 2009

Goodbye, Bar 25. I visited you once and had to argue for half an hour with the door staff to let me in. You will be missed.

Dawn rising

September 4, 2009

The grey light of dawn flooding through the cracks in the curtains. Often the most feared moment of the night, as the grim reality of the day ahead hits home.

Santiago Salazar’s ‘Arcade’ sounds like it was made to pinpoint this exact moment in time.

Still, don’t think it beats this.
