Wax’d presents Patrice Scott
Saturday 4 May 2013
Dance Tunnel, 95 Kingsland High Street
10pm – 5am
Wax’d returns to Dance Tunnel on bank holiday Saturday 4th May with a special extended set from one of our all-time favourite DJs – Detroit’s very own Patrice Scott.
Patrice runs one of the most consistently excellent record labels around, Sistrum Recordings, and, as well as being an outstanding producer, is one of the best DJs we’ve had the privilege of hearing.
When he’s in Europe, Patrice can usually be found spinning at the likes of Panorama Bar and Fabric, so this is a rare chance to see him do his thing in such an intimate space. Patrice will be digging deep into his record collection for us to play an extended three-hour set through Dance Tunnel’s expertly-tuned Funktion 1 soundsystem.
We’ve put a limited number of advance tickets on sale, and the rest will be on the door. Those of you who came to our February party with Smallville’s Julius Steinhoff will know it was a roadblock, so we would recommend buying a ticket in advance or coming early on the night.
£7 advance tickets available from Resident Advisor
Door admission: £5 before 11pm / £10 thereafter
Check our Facebook page for more info.

Wax’d returns for 2013 bigger and better than ever, in a brand spanking new venue and with the man behind of one of our favourite record labels – Smallville.
Julius Steinhoff is one half of Smallpeople, alongside Dionne, and since 2005 has run the Smallville label and record shop in Hamburg with Peter Kersten, aka Lawrence.
As well as releasing RA’s 18th best album of 2012 and running RA’s 15th best label of 2012, Julius also finds time to play regularly in some of the best clubs in Europe, including Panorama Bar, Robert Johnson, Club der Visionäere and hometown favourite Golden Pudel.
He is truly one of the best DJs around – check his Smallpeople podcast from last year here: http://bit.ly/XICsvH
Did we mention RA also put this in their top 10 mixes of 2012?
To quote RA: “The guys behind Smallville know what they like, and there’s nothing wrong with that. You could call it all “deep house,” but wouldn’t that miss the point? This is understated, mature and emotionally complex music, which just so happens to have a perfect groove.”
We are very excited to be moving to a new space in the heart of Dalston for this party. Dance Tunnel is a brand new intimate basement club from the team behind Dalston Superstore, with a mammoth, crystal-clear soundsystem. This place is set to become one of E8’s best small club spaces and we are seriously excited to call it home.
Capacity is very limited for this party. Advance tickets will be available via RA – there will be a limited number of early birds for £7, and after that tickets will be £8 in advance or £10 on the door.

Three years already? They grow up so fast!
Yes, that’s right – it’s been three whole years since we first packed our record bags and decamped to Whitechapel for the night, throwing an all night party above The Castle pub on Commercial Road back in December 2010.
Little did we know what we’d started. What began with an idea for an intimate party showcasing the music we love took us from a steamy room full of friends dancing to forgotten house gems until the sun rose over a frozen East London, to disused public toilets and a whole host of long-forgotten dark smokey basements. Settling into our most recent home at the Horse & Groom, the last year has seen us throw some unforgettable parties with some of our favourite DJs, including Ethyl, Flori, Miles Sagnia, Jane Fitz and Juergen Junker.
Three years on, and none the wiser, we have put together a very special line up to celebrate our birthday in style. As our headliner, we are extremely excited to welcome Luv*Jam, aka Mr Andy Cole.
Andy has been putting out some of our favourite slices of wax under various aliases over the last couple of years, including the amazing Crow Castle Cuts and Dream House series. As Luv*Jam he has released on We Play House, Phonica, Throne of Blood, Skylax and more, and has new EPs coming out on Rawax and Chiwax over the coming months.
His eclectic, epic DJ style encompassing the deepest dreamy house and electronica has seen him play clubs and festivals across the world including Fabric, Bestival and Space Ibiza, where he holds down a residency at We Love, as well as throwing his own parties in unusual surroundings such as concrete bunkers, Berlin’s River Spree and enchanted mountain forests.
In support we have ever-reliable Wax’d resident Nick P Warren, as well as mysterious London-based producer GNG playing his debut live set, and we welcome back a friendly face from the early days of Wax’d in the shape of Chris Wan. And we’ll be adding a few special touches to the venue. It is our birthday after all.
Tickets on sale via RA, or click attending on this page and we’ll stick you on the concessions list. Thanks for all your support over the last three years – see you down the front!

After a short summer hiatus, Wax’d kicks off a new season with a bang by welcoming back one of our favourite guests to date – Ethyl, aka Tim Hopgood.
We’re hugely excited to welcome Tim back after he rocked our little disco to its foundations last November with his deep, hypnotic house vibes. If you weren’t there, check out his excellent recent podcast for Studio R in Berlin for a taste of what to expect:
http://soundcloud.com/ethylmusic/ethyl-studio-r-berlin-14-7-12
Tim has released some outstanding tunes and remixes this year, but as ever it is his exceptional record selection and DJ expertise that made us know we had to ask him back to Wax’d.
As usual, we kick off at 9pm and go through to 4am, so come early and stay late. We’re expecting this one to be busy, so please click attending on this page so we can make sure you’re on the concessions list.
And keep your eyes peeled for a very exciting announcement coming soon about our third birthday party in December.
WXD.01: Juergen Junker

We return to the Horse & Groom on Friday 13 July with one of our most exciting special guests yet, a DJ and producer responsible for some of our favourite records of the last few years on some of our favourite labels.
London-based German Juergen Junker will be playing an extended three hour set for us, and having played dates in the last year at the likes of Panorama Bar, Cookies, fabric and Plastic People, we feel very privileged to have him down to play at our intimate little disco.
Although he has been pushing his sound since the early ‘90s, you are probably most likely to know Juergen for his outstanding split EP with Lowtec on Laid last year which showcased his unique take on deep house, mixing together layered percussion, warm textures and hypnotic chord flourishes to mindblowing effect.
So the story goes, Juergen was signed up for this release after impressing Dial head honchos Lawrence, Efdemin and Carsten Jost at a Sud Electronic party a couple of years back, and given that his sets seamlessly fuse together disco, house, his own edits and a healthy dose of Chicago’s jack, we can’t say we’re surprised. Efdemin even went on to sign him for another stunning release on his naïf imprint later in the year.
Juergen has also made a name for himself via the heavily percussive Detroit-leaning material released on his own Neurhythmics imprint, which he launched in 2001. He continues to use this as an outlet for his own material and that of other forward-thinking producers – be sure to check the label’s latest release from Roger 23 for a taster of what to expect.
